About the position

The Counselor for the Intensive Outpatient program at the Louisiana Association on Compulsive Gambling is responsible for providing therapeutic support to clients dealing with gambling addiction. This role involves conducting group and individual therapy sessions, preparing necessary documentation, and coordinating care with other professionals to ensure comprehensive treatment for clients. The position requires a strong commitment to client recovery and collaboration with clinical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts intensive outpatient process groups, lectures, and individual sessions with clients.
  • Prepares educational, group and individual progress notes for each client within 24 hours and 48 if PT (if needed).
  • Prepares and completes discharge summaries of assigned clients within 72 hours.
  • Works with assigned clients to formulate a Health & Recovery Plan and coordinate continued support services such as a counselor, GA meetings, sponsor, etc.
  • Coordinates care with Intake Specialist, fills out necessary paperwork for new clients.
  • Performs client assessments to determine the needs and severity of the gambling addiction for each potential client if the Intake Specialist is unavailable.
  • Meets individually with each assigned client to go over treatment plan and objectives.
  • Completes the assessment on assigned clients within 72 hours of admission.
  • Coordinates client information on a daily and weekly basis with the rest of the clinical staff.
  • As needed, coordinates with the medical doctor and contract RN on patient care issues.
  • If necessary, assist in supervision of intern counselors by co-facilitating/shadowing in group, assigning client tasks such as initial assessments, etc.
  • Provides outreach lectures when requested by Director of Clinical Services.
  • Maintains assigned patient records and ensures they meet clinical guidelines.
  • Supervises the updating and creation of educational, step, and relapse prevention materials for use in treatment.
  • Attends staff and clinical meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Clinical Services and/or designee.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in counseling or related field of study.
  • LAC / LPC / LCSW status current or in process of completion.
  • CCGC, ICGC or equivalent in active status or pursuing.
  • Pre-Employment negative drug screen and background check.
  • Free from TB and verified by annual skin test by CORE.
