About the position

The Counter Sales Associate is responsible for selling industrial, medical, and specialty gases, as well as welding equipment and various supplies. This role involves advising customers on tools and materials, ensuring excellent customer service, and managing sales transactions. The associate will also handle order entry, coordinate deliveries, and maintain a clean and professional work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Sell industrial, medical, and specialty gases, welding equipment, and other supplies to customers.
  • Advise customers on tools, hardware, and materials needed for their tasks.
  • Demonstrate the use of tools and equipment to customers.
  • Arrange for the delivery of cylinders and hard goods.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately, including coding, costing, and pricing.
  • Process cash and charge orders, and assist with cash reconciliation.
  • Communicate with customers and staff via phone, email, and in person regarding orders and delivery times.
  • Develop and implement an outgoing call strategy to support sales growth.
  • Obtain or transfer merchandise requested by customers from other locations.
  • Answer customer inquiries about product location, price, and usage.
  • Prepare invoices by totaling price and tax on merchandise purchased.
  • Accept payments and provide change for customer purchases.
  • Wrap or bag merchandise for customers and assist with loading and unloading.
  • Coordinate with the purchasing department regarding product shortages or outages.
  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance and a positive work atmosphere.
  • Stock shelves and maintain showroom displays.

Requirements

  • Ability to handle cash transactions accurately.
  • Strong communication skills via phone, email, and in person.
  • Ability to work with diverse personalities and backgrounds.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Google Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • May be required to operate a forklift in the warehouse.
  • Ability to read and comprehend safety data sheets.
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime when necessary.
  • Must operate in a drug-free workplace.
