About the position

The Counter Sales Representative at Van Meter Inc. is responsible for providing exceptional service to both business and walk-in customers by accurately picking and preparing orders at the counter. This role emphasizes customer relationship building, effective communication, and teamwork with inside sales and distribution teams to ensure high-quality service. The representative is expected to embody the company's culture and values while promoting continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Service business and industrial establishment customers as well as walk-in customers by providing information on products or services.
• Pick and prepare customer pipe and wire in an efficient and accurate manner.
• Use an RF gun, motorized cart, and/or forklift to pick customer orders.
• Build and maintain customer relationships.
• Provide project demonstrations to qualified customers on request.
• Maintain the counter area, displays, and stock levels in an orderly fashion.
• Estimate delivery dates to customers based on vendor production and delivery schedules.
• Emphasize salable features, quote prices and credit terms, and prepare sales orders for orders obtained.
• Encourage creativity, risk-taking, and constant improvements.
• Work collaboratively with inside sales and distribution teams to ensure quality customer service.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of a two-year degree preferred.
• Previous sales experience preferred.
• Electrical product knowledge is preferred.
• Ability to lift 70 lbs required; lift 100 lbs at times.
• Ability to use forklift equipment required.
• Demonstrated computer skills.
• Ability to work with Excel documents.
• Knowledge of Eclipse and RF Scan is preferred.
