About the position

The Counter Sales & Service Associate at Johnstone Supply is responsible for providing exceptional customer service and sales support in a wholesale distribution environment focused on HVACR products. This role involves assisting customers with product selection, troubleshooting, and processing sales orders while maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor. The associate will also promote products, manage customer relationships, and ensure customer satisfaction to drive store profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers in making product selections by asking questions and actively listening to identify customer needs.
  • Handle multiple customers and customer requests simultaneously while maintaining a friendly and professional manner.
  • Research and source products for customers using various tools, including point-of-sale systems and catalogs.
  • Enter sales orders into the point-of-sale system for invoicing or cash payments.
  • Process customer returns and warranties following company guidelines.
  • Follow up promptly on all customer requests for information, quotes, and delivery dates.
  • Educate customers about the variety of products available and the benefits of shopping at Johnstone Supply.
  • Increase customer satisfaction and store profitability by recommending additional items and promotions.
  • Uncover and communicate sales lead information to outside sales staff and management.
  • Prepare and issue sales quotes and follow up to secure sales.
  • Promote surplus, sale, discounted, and obsolete inventory to maintain proper inventory levels.
  • Maintain knowledge of new and existing products through training and research.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of related experience in the HVAC/R industry or equivalent education and experience.
  • Ability to provide consistent, professional customer service.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize the needs of several customers simultaneously.
  • Problem-solving skills to diagnose and rectify customer issues.
  • Understanding and application of effective sales strategies and techniques.
  • Skill in building long-term customer relationships.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and friendly demeanor.
  • General knowledge of HVACR products and concepts.
  • Skill in proactive communication, both verbal and written.
  • Math skills for calculations involving margins, discounts, and percentages.
  • Skill in using point-of-sale systems and web-based tools for product research.
  • Ability to work productively in teams.

Nice-to-haves
