About the position

As a Counter Sales and Service Associate at Johnstone Supply, you will serve as the primary point of contact for professional technicians and contractors, providing them with product expertise and quality service. This role is essential in supporting local contractors and ensuring their success through informed product selections and strong customer relationships. Continuous learning and collaboration with team members are key aspects of this position, as well as managing sales orders and inventory effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers in making informed product selections by asking questions and listening to their needs.
  • Troubleshoot and answer technical questions, offering alternative products when necessary.
  • Develop strong rapport with customers, recognizing and greeting regular customers by name.
  • Stay informed about new and existing products through ongoing training and studying industry materials.
  • Work closely with fellow counter sales staff and warehouse teams to ensure smooth order fulfillment.
  • Accurately enter sales orders into the POS system and handle invoicing and cash payments.
  • Process customer returns and warranties according to company policies.
  • Follow up on customer requests for information, quotes, and order updates.
  • Promote surplus, sale, and discounted inventory to customers, ensuring optimal inventory levels.
  • Maintain organized records and ensure the store/showroom is well stocked.
  • Assist with receiving, shipping, and general warehouse duties as needed.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of related experience is required.
  • A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required.
  • Previous counter sales and/or HVAC-R experience is preferred but not required.
  • Strong customer service skills with a focus on understanding and meeting customer needs.
  • Detail-oriented with a keen eye for accuracy in order entry and documentation.
  • Proactive and resourceful in identifying opportunities to enhance customer experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Adaptable to handle multiple tasks efficiently and remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift up to 70 pounds.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in HVAC-R sales or service is a plus.
