About the position

The Course Support Specialist (CSS) plays a crucial role in supporting faculty with curriculum delivery and course management. This position involves assisting in the design, development, and implementation of online and face-to-face training courses, ensuring that educational materials are effectively delivered and maintained. The CSS will also provide technical support and guidance on various instructional technologies, contributing to the overall quality and accessibility of the academic programs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional design support and coordinate online instructional tools and materials.
  • Make recommendations to faculty for updating existing courses.
  • Perform routine revisions of course content.
  • Create and maintain records for faculty, students, and courses in various systems.
  • Update course websites in the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Conduct general quality assurance of courses throughout the term.
  • Coordinate with faculty for term start preparations and course setup.
  • Assist with compliance to accessibility standards.
  • Prepare course materials prior to posting in the classroom.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with faculty and program administrators.
  • Provide guidance and training on technologies used in online courses.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues escalated from help desks.
  • Consult with faculty on instructional technologies for various activities.
  • Assist multimedia specialists with audio/video lecture production.
  • Participate in technology implementation projects and provide project coordination.
  • Respond to faculty and student inquiries and troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • Collaborate with faculty to select appropriate technologies for courses.
  • Perform quality assurance testing as needed.
  • Provide administrative assistance in course material production and research.
  • Collect and analyze data to evaluate design changes and technological innovations.
  • Staff academic committees and prepare course reports as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Education, or related field.
  • One year of progressively responsible related experience.
  • Familiarity with Blackboard and/or other Learning Management Systems.
  • Ability to navigate and understand new technologies and educational technologies.
  • Basic HTML experience for editing code.
  • Proficient in supporting various software and applications.
  • Advanced knowledge of Blackboard and/or other Learning Management Systems is desired.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for working with diverse groups.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Knowledge of best practices for implementing instructional technology tools in higher education.
