About the position

The Minnesota Court of Appeals is seeking up to two law clerks for a term from January to August 2025, with the potential for extension through August 2026. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in public service while gaining valuable training and experience in legal research, reasoning, and writing. Law clerks will assist judges in the decision-making process by providing legal research and case analysis, thereby enhancing their skills and building professional relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and research cases on appeal.
  • Review records and transcripts from district courts.
  • Evaluate opposing briefs and supplement legal research.
  • Assist judges in synthesizing facts and law through bench memoranda preparation.
  • Help draft judicial opinions and perform cite-checking.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited law school is required.
  • Strong writing and research skills are essential.
  • Significant legal writing experience, preferably on a law review or law journal, is preferred.
