About the position

The Court Operations Specialist (Criminal Courtroom Clerk) plays a crucial role in supporting the judicial process by providing administrative assistance to judges and court staff in a high-volume courtroom setting. This position involves preparing for and staffing arraignment dockets, recording court proceedings, managing case documentation, and ensuring effective communication among court personnel, attorneys, and law enforcement. The specialist is also responsible for maintaining courtroom security and facilitating remote hearings, all while delivering excellent customer service to individuals navigating the court system.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and staff the high-volume arraignment courtroom for daily dockets.
  • Record court proceedings and create minutes for dockets.
  • Fill out various forms and prepare orders for the judge's signature.
  • Review final dockets and assign court dates.
  • Provide service copies of charging documents to defendants, attorneys, and the sheriff's office.
  • Respond to the security needs of the courtroom.
  • Host and monitor remote hearings.
  • Perform data entry and maintain multiple calendars.
  • Assist the judge with correspondence and track cases.
  • Copy and scan documents, process mail, reply to emails, and send faxes.
  • Process warrant recalls, requests from self-represented litigants, dismissals, transport orders, and protective orders as needed.
  • Provide customer service by greeting court staff, attorneys, and law enforcement officers, and answering telephone calls.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Four years of responsible administrative experience in a moderately complex office or business setting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual Spanish proficiency is preferred but not required.
