About the position

The CPA Controller will be a key accounting professional in a technology-driven energy sector company located in North Dallas. This role involves managing all accounting operations, financial reporting, and financial planning while collaborating closely with the CEO and CFO to build a new accounting department. The Controller will initially lead a small team and work towards transitioning outsourced accounting functions to an in-house team.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of financial accounting, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger management, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and evaluate new accounting standards and guidance.
  • Manage public company filings, including Canadian Securities Exchange and SEDAR, and transition to US Securities and Exchange filings.
  • Manage annual audit and quarterly review with public accountants.
  • Lead the selection of new accounting and financial reporting software and assist in its implementation.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals, promoting a high-performance culture.
  • Offer guidance and training to ensure staff proficiency and adherence to best practices in accounting and financial reporting.
  • Develop and enforce comprehensive financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Manage cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting in collaboration with the CFO.
  • Prepare management reporting including detailed monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and analyses.
  • Monitor tax compliance and coordinate with the preparation of state, federal, and international tax returns.
  • Provide strategic financial analysis and recommendations to support decision-making by senior management.
  • Support special projects and initiatives, including acquisitions and new project development, from a financial perspective.
  • Collaborate with CEO and CFO to prepare ad hoc presentations and analysis for proposals and deal development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in accounting.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in industrial services.
  • At least 5 years in a management or supervisory role.
  • Active CPA license.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Deep understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations.
  • Proven expertise in financial planning, analysis, and reporting.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Multinational experience preferred.
