About the position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to join our team and take full responsibility for managing both our business and personal finances. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of financial management in a small business setting, particularly in the construction or electrical contracting industry. This role requires someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of driving financial growth while ensuring compliance and accuracy across all financial activities. The CPA will oversee various financial operations, including payroll management, retirement planning, financial analysis, cash flow management, and compliance with financial regulations. The successful candidate will also be responsible for managing financial software tools, particularly QuickBooks and Service Titan, to optimize financial reporting and job costing. This position involves working closely with a part-time bookkeeper and ensuring that all financial obligations are met on time while maintaining a focus on strategic financial growth and compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Davis-Bacon payroll compliance and regular payroll processing.
  • Set up and manage the company's IRA plan, including personal IRA accounts.
  • Calculate burn rates and break-even points to guide financial decisions.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets, including forecasting and variance analysis.
  • Monitor cash flow and manage the line of credit to ensure liquidity.
  • Ensure timely collections and manage accounts receivable, including placing liens on non-paying clients.
  • Balance the company checkbook and manage all bank reconciliations.
  • Pay all company bills and ensure all financial obligations are met on time.
  • Manage insurance policies, ensuring adequate coverage and optimal rates.
  • Oversee and manage financial aspects within Service Titan, including setting up and maintaining a price book.
  • Handle invoicing, including the preparation and submission of G702 and G703 forms for construction projects.
  • Maximize the use of QuickBooks for accounting and financial reporting.
  • Oversee and manage a part-time bookkeeper and helper, ensuring that routine tasks are completed efficiently.
  • Conduct market research to determine competitive pay rates for employees and appropriate pricing for services.
  • Continuously review and negotiate with vendors to ensure the best rates on all company expenditures.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards.

Requirements

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is required.
  • Extensive experience in financial management, preferably in the construction or electrical contracting industry.
  • Proficiency in financial software and tools, with specific experience in QuickBooks and Service Titan being a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to develop and implement strategic financial plans.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Experience in managing a team, including overseeing the work of a bookkeeper or financial assistant.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
