About the position

The Family Based Safety Services (FBSS) Worker plays a crucial role in protecting children from abuse and neglect by providing in-home services to families after investigations. This position involves assessing child safety, developing treatment plans, and connecting families with community resources to ensure the well-being of children. The FBSS Worker is responsible for maintaining contact with families, documenting relevant information, and working collaboratively with various stakeholders to achieve treatment goals.

Responsibilities

  • Respond quickly in crisis situations.
  • Provide time-limited in-home services to meet the specific needs of families.
  • Assess child safety and take necessary actions to protect the child.
  • Interact objectively with caretakers who have abused or neglected children.
  • Discuss personal issues with families related to income, money management, and relationships.
  • Help identify resources and community support available to the family.
  • Assist parents in recognizing behaviors that lead to child abuse and empower them to make necessary changes.
  • Determine actions to remove or reduce immediate threats to child safety.
  • Gather family and kinship information to support child placement if necessary.
  • Document all relevant information accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Work flexible hours beyond the standard schedule as needed.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement and community resources.
  • Attend and participate in trainings, meetings, and staffings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or an Associate's degree with two years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in social, human, or protective services, including paid or volunteer work.
  • Knowledge of child development and family dynamics.
  • Skill in effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and travel for work-related appointments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Social Work.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
