About the position

In this highly visible role within Apple's innovative CPU design team, you will contribute to solving key problems in physical design methodology and optimization. The position focuses on improving Power, Performance, and Area (PPA) of CPU designs, collaborating with various teams to enhance efficiency and performance. You will also engage in applying machine learning techniques in silicon design, making a significant impact on the development of groundbreaking Apple products.

Responsibilities

• Work with CPU CAD and design teams to engineer new flows/algorithms to improve PPA.
• Conduct detailed analysis across partitions to identify optimization opportunities.
• Develop new physical design focused flows to enhance CPU performance and efficiency.
• Collaborate with multi-functional teams including STA, library, tech, and post-silicon teams to improve optimization during physical design.

Requirements

• Minimum BS degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals in digital circuits, timing/power concepts, and logic design.
• Basic scripting skills to interface with tools and mine data.
• Experience using industry-standard synthesis, PnR, and STA tools.

Nice-to-haves

• Strong fundamentals in high-performance and low-power physical design techniques.
• Proficiency in programming and scripting languages such as Python, TCL, and Perl.
• Understanding of challenges related to the latest deep sub-micron technology and ability to write algorithms and code to extract Power Performance & Area during physical design.
• Ability to work independently and/or lead physical design methodology and optimization techniques across partitions in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
