About the position

The Business Development Manager (BDM) for Diageo at Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits is a pivotal role responsible for managing and strategically growing the business through influential leadership. This position requires a proactive approach to account relationship management, where the BDM will regularly visit assigned accounts to develop key relationships and become a trusted advisor. The BDM is tasked with achieving category objectives and key performance indicators by implementing effective strategies and tactics that promote sustainable long-term growth. The role involves accelerating the growth of Diageo brands within the assigned category and identifying market trends to maintain a competitive edge. In addition to account management, the BDM will be involved in account activation, promoting on-site events such as launches and tastings, and collaborating with local teams to execute promotional functions. The BDM will also conduct training sessions for customer staff on focus categories and brands, ensuring that all stakeholders are well-informed and engaged. This position requires a strong focus on program execution, including digital engagement and social media strategies, to enhance brand visibility and consumer interaction. The BDM will provide recaps of market opportunities and successes, supporting the achievement of revenue, margin, and gross profit targets. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, enabling them to build effective relationships with suppliers and buyers. They will be expected to manage multiple projects efficiently in a fast-paced environment while demonstrating a strategic and analytical thought process. Responsibilities

  • Visit assigned account universe on a regular basis to develop key account relationships.
  • Achieve category objectives, key performance indicators, and targets by implementing strategies and tactics.
  • Accelerate Diageo brands quicker than assigned category in allotted accounts.
  • Identify market trends and developments in product categories and geographic regions.
  • Promote account level activation and collaborate with local teams to execute promotional functions.
  • Conduct customer staff training on focus category/brands and provide recaps of market opportunities and successes.
  • Support achieving revenue, margin, and gross profit targets through effective program execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field.
  • 3-5 years of industry-related experience.
  • One year of demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects on time and budget.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, decision-making, and quantitative analysis skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent customer service skills in all interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Mixology experience preferred for positions with On Premise responsibilities.
  • Experience in building and improving relationships with suppliers and buyers.
