About the position

The Craft Technician II is responsible for specialized repair and maintenance duties across various skilled trades, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry. This role involves troubleshooting systems, conducting inspections, and ensuring that city buildings are maintained according to state codes and safety procedures. The technician works with limited supervision and may provide training and direction to other employees.

Responsibilities

• Perform specialized troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance in skilled trades for various structures and systems.
• Operate specialized tools and equipment, including computerized monitoring systems and hand/power tools.
• Maintain work order logs and prioritize tasks accordingly.
• Determine the quantity and types of equipment and materials needed for work orders.
• Monitor inventory of supplies and equipment, ensuring adequate stock and functionality; order supplies as needed.
• Inspect, repair, regulate, and maintain existing and new facilities, systems, fixtures, and equipment.
• Read, interpret, and review drawings for proposed new facilities and renovations.
• Monitor the work of external contractors to ensure compliance with contract terms and specifications.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance to contractors during projects.
• Perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Two years of experience in a relevant specialty area.
• Knowledge of electrical system test equipment and facilities maintenance practices.
• Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
• Skilled in evaluating and recommending repair, replacement, and maintenance of components and equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents and instructions.

• Completion of an approved apprenticeship or training program in a related skilled trade.
