About the position

The Crafts Worker II position is a part-time role focused on performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance tasks across multiple trades including painting, plumbing, electrical work, and carpentry. The worker will assist skilled tradespeople and handle general maintenance duties, ensuring the upkeep of facilities and equipment. This role requires a hands-on approach and the ability to operate various tools and machinery safely.

Responsibilities

  • Perform semi-skilled painting, glazing, carpentry, plastering, locksmithing, masonry, plumbing, metal work, welding, electrical, mechanical, heating and ventilating, and related maintenance trades work.
  • Assist in hanging doors, pouring concrete, laying flooring, installing partitions and drop ceilings, and repairing door closers, furniture, and roofs.
  • Perform general minor plumbing repairs, including fixing leaking faucets and unclogging lines.
  • Install and replace light fixtures, outlets, bulbs, and fuses.
  • Maintain and perform minor repairs on locks, appliances, automotive equipment, boilers, heating and ventilating, and related mechanical devices.
  • Assist skilled workers in various building trades tasks.
  • Maintain runways and taxiways; spray chemicals for weed control; perform janitorial and grounds maintenance as assigned.
  • Operate a variety of motorized tools, equipment, and vehicles, performing minor maintenance as needed.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of standard methods, practices, tools, and materials used in building maintenance trades.
  • Ability to train and lead less skilled workers as necessary.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to write simple notations and prepare simple reports.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
