About the position

The Overhead Service Technician is a crucial front-line employee responsible for performing on-site repairs and maintenance on overhead cranes and hoists at customer facilities. This role requires a combination of technical skills and strong interpersonal abilities to effectively manage customer relationships and ensure high-quality service delivery. The technician will respond to emergency breakdowns, conduct troubleshooting, and maintain compliance with industry regulations while ensuring customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site repairs on overhead cranes and hoists as directed by the Service Supervisor or Service Manager.
  • Conduct planned maintenance and repairs on various crane and hoist systems.
  • Respond to emergency breakdown call outs, including after hours and weekends.
  • Conduct extensive troubleshooting to determine the root cause of equipment malfunctions and establish necessary repairs.
  • Maintain a basic understanding of OSHA, ANSI, CMAA, and other relevant codes and regulations.
  • Complete daily paperwork accurately, including time tickets, service reports, and inspection reports.
  • Review repairs performed with customers and obtain their acceptance signature on service reports.
  • Maintain company equipment and tools according to manufacturer recommendations.
  • Keep proper stock levels of inventory on the service vehicle.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and communicate regularly with the local office.
  • Collect and formalize information for proposals of replacement and repair opportunities.
  • Keep training assignments current and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, vocational-technical school or crane training program preferred.
  • At least 2 years in an industrial maintenance environment or equivalent military experience required.
  • Previous overhead crane service experience preferred but not required.
  • Valid driver's license in good standing that meets company requirements.
  • Ability to lift/pull heavy weights (minimum 75 lbs.) and work at heights greater than six feet.
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent math skills and overall PC literacy, including Microsoft Office.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and disciplined with the ability to multi-task.
