About the position
The Crane Operator is responsible for the safe operation of hydraulic and mechanical boom/cable cranes at Bollinger Shipyards. This role involves moving, lifting, and manipulating materials and personnel, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and operational standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily inspections of cranes before use.
- Check wire rope, blocks, etc. every week.
- Assist in general and routine maintenance and service of cranes.
- Operate cranes to lift, move, and position loads such as machinery and equipment.
- Observe load hook-up and determine the safety of the load.
- Manipulate crane controls to regulate speed and direction of equipment.
- Weigh materials or products and record weight on tags or labels.
- Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities.
- Assist in directing helpers engaged in placing blocking and outrigging under cranes.
- Follow all company policies and procedures related to safety and environmental policy.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested by management.
- Work overtime as required.
Requirements
- Two years of directly related experience in a similar position preferred.
- Ability to safely operate all heavy equipment and machinery used during construction.
- Familiarity with OSHA hand signals.
- Knowledgeable about equipment-rated capacities, load ranges, and safety factors.
- Certified in the safe and proper operation of cranes.
- Familiarity with rigging techniques.
- Must be able to complete the required crane operator pre-employment and annual physical requirements.
