About the position

The Creative Digital Media Adjunct position at Indiana Wesleyan University is designed for individuals who are passionate about teaching in a Christ-centered adult online undergraduate degree program. This role involves teaching five-week college courses on a part-time, contractual basis, primarily in the field of digital media. The adjunct faculty member will be responsible for ensuring the quality of the courses by checking for broken links and other quality assurance items, as well as posting course announcements weekly to keep students informed and engaged. In addition to these responsibilities, the faculty member will actively participate in and facilitate class discussions using Brightspace, providing actionable and timely feedback on student work. Communication is key in this role, as the adjunct will be expected to answer student questions via email, telephone, or Teams, and submit grades within one week of assignment submission. There may also be opportunities to collaborate with other professors to develop courses and support the department's initiatives. A significant aspect of this position is the integration of faith into all instructional activities, including announcements, discussions, feedback, and communication with students, peers, and supervisors. The faculty member is expected to demonstrate Christlike character and lifestyle in compliance with the Code of Conduct, reflecting the university's commitment to a strong Christian ethos.

Responsibilities

  • Checking courses for broken links and other quality assurance items.
  • Posting course announcements on a weekly basis.
  • Participating and facilitating class discussions via Brightspace.
  • Providing actionable, timely feedback on student work.
  • Answering student questions via email/telephone/Teams.
  • Submitting grades for students within one week of submission.
  • Collaborating with other professors to write courses and support the department.
  • Following established expectations and protocols for the department.
  • Integrating faith into instruction, announcements, discussions, feedback, and communication with students, peers, and supervisors.

Requirements

  • Master's degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in graphic design, mass communication, marketing, or a related field.
  • At least five years documented experience in digital media.
  • At least two years teaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Fluency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Express, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign).
  • Knowledge of web design, SEO, html coding, and web-based solutions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of online educational delivery tools.
  • Demonstrated preparation to teach a variety of undergraduate courses (graphic design, web design, etc.).
  • Demonstrated teaching abilities and higher education experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft products.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learners.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge/experience with scholarly writing.
