About the position

The Creative Director, Copy at AbbVie is a leadership role within the Creative Department, focusing on the growth of business and team members across assigned brands. This position champions innovative and authentic ideas while ensuring client satisfaction with the quality of creative work. The role involves collaboration with various departments, overseeing multiple projects, and managing a team of writers to deliver impactful advertising solutions in the pharmaceutical sector.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and review creative briefs with Account partners.
  • Oversee multiple brands/projects and manage a team of writers.
  • Participate in client meetings and co-lead strategy sessions with Account.
  • Lead creative presentations and new business efforts as required.
  • Attend market research as appropriate.
  • Assign writers based on ability and workload.
  • Manage workloads to maximize productivity of the Copy team.
  • Guide award-worthy creative execution with constructive feedback.
  • Provide written and face-to-face feedback for annual performance reviews.
  • Identify and interview prospective creative candidates.
  • Foster excellent client relationships and grow business with existing clients.
  • Address performance, workflow, and quality issues with Creative Management.
  • Anticipate potential problems and proactively champion solutions.
  • Train and mentor copywriters to meet agency and client expectations.

Requirements

  • 10+ years' pharmaceutical advertising agency experience.
  • BA degree or 4-8 years equivalent business experience in the pharmaceutical or related industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe platforms, and project management tools.
  • Strong business acumen with understanding of profit and loss drivers.
  • Proven track record of creative ability and successful client contact experience.
  • Excellent presentation, collaboration, management, and mentoring skills.
  • Strong marketing and strategic abilities with a deep understanding of science and healthcare.
  • Strong understanding of MLR Medical/Legal/Regulatory review processes and requirements.
  • Exceptional copywriting skills in all media.
