About the position

Emerald is hiring a Creative Director responsible for the design of the following brands: Couture, JANY, and OMBAS, while also supervising design projects for the brand NYNOW. This is a managerial position that reports to the VP of Creative Services. The role encompasses a wide range of design responsibilities including identity, event graphics, digital media, directories, motion graphic video, and UX web design. The ideal candidate will have experience from conceptualization through to implementation and final deliverables, creating strategic design direction for the brand portfolio. The Creative Director will collaborate closely with Brand Marketers and will be responsible for designing complex projects while managing the resource hub designer to execute artwork design and production. Experience in the jewelry and fashion industry is preferred, as this role is a “working designer” that requires flexibility, project management skills, resource hub staff management, creative intuition, and a passion for brand design. Participation in cross-functional collaboration between brands will provide the opportunity to work on a variety of projects across different categories, ultimately integrating new ideas that will help shape the brands for the future. This position can be performed from any of our US-based offices or remotely from anywhere within the US, allowing for a flexible working environment that supports creativity and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop brand, event, digital, web, print and design strategies for portfolio and brand markets
  • Manage deadlines and execution of projects
  • Comprehensive presentation of work to Marketing
  • Adjust design execution strategy to meet evolving marketing requirements and maintain awareness of competitors and market trends
  • Attend kick-off meetings, design presentations, internal design reviews
  • Knowledge of business strategy, competitor markets and productions, technologies, and market growth and innovation
  • Energize projects by stimulating innovative, risk-taking ideas and teamwork

Requirements

  • Exceptional brand knowledge and ability to evolve the brands' visual identity
  • Strong track record leveraging collaborative leadership in a matrix organization to get things done
  • Ability to conceptualize and brainstorm innovative brand experiences with senior leaders, sales, and marketing staff
  • Provide thought leadership and consulting to develop print, production and digital strategy
  • Strong visual composition skills with the ability to adapt to changing needs and meet deadlines
  • Experience driving brand strategy and exceeding quality goals
  • Experience with latest trends, technologies and methodologies in web design, social media, digital design and motion graphic production
  • Knowledge of design stacks, information architecture, and languages
  • Expertise with design software, especially InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, and WordPress
  • Ability to lead effective presentations and pitches
  • Ability to manage and provide coaching and professional development to resource hub designers
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Natural leadership qualities with empathic abilities
  • Experience in managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects and achieving goals on time and within budget
  • Creative and innovative thinking
  • Strong portfolio with case studies for leading brand execution and evolution
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, especially with brand and portfolio teams

  • Desire to change traditional marketing and brand strategy approaches

  • Strong portfolio in jewelry and fashion graphic design with experience in interactive/web design projects
