About the position
The Credentialing Specialist is responsible for the credentialing process of various healthcare professionals including physicians, advanced practitioners, and therapists at Springfield Clinic. This role involves managing professional license applications, hospital credentialing, and ensuring compliance with clinic by-laws and managed care contracts. The specialist plays a crucial role in maintaining accurate provider files and facilitating the appointment and re-appointment processes for medical staff.
Responsibilities
- Initiate, establish, and maintain files for employed and contracted healthcare professionals.
- Provide credentialing for medical staff appointments, including gathering necessary documentation and verifying credentials.
- Assist new physicians with hospital privileges and license changes.
- Support re-appointment paperwork for area hospitals and nursing homes.
- Complete and track managed care credentialing applications in a timely manner.
- Maintain accuracy in physician directories in collaboration with managed care plans.
- Manage provider numbers and ensure proper documentation during physician transitions.
- Assist Patient Accounting with contract-related questions and updates on credentialing status.
- Ensure compliance with Springfield Clinic's policies and procedures, including incident reporting and OSHA training.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business or healthcare related studies preferred.
- Two years of healthcare experience required.
- Healthcare credentialing experience preferred.
- Strong communication skills and ability to handle multiple projects under stress.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and various office machinery.
