About the position

The Credit Analyst position at First Horizon Bank involves underwriting and analyzing commercial loans while assisting Portfolio Managers and Relationship Managers in managing customer relationships. This role is part of the Commercial Lending team and requires providing periodic credit analysis support for commercial lending portfolios. The work is conducted in a production-based environment, focusing on financial statement analysis, loan request management, and industry research for commercial lending prospects.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare credit analysis including review/analysis of real estate and C&I loans—specific market information and financial statements for commercial borrowers, guarantors and prospects.
  • Work proactively to ensure both production and analyst tasks are prioritized appropriately and completed in a timely manner, including financial statement spreading and completing financial analysis documents.
  • Update and create new requests—modifications—renewals and annual reviews; track and complete covenant monitoring; complete industry research and understand loan policy.
  • Analyze and prepare complex credit approval documentation in FHB's approval system, including loan terms, collateral, entering covenants, determining bank's credit exposure, and loan grade inputs.
  • Monitor and manage assigned commercial loan portfolios, including tracking covenants and recording financial statements.
  • Participate in internal credit conversations with PM's, RM's, Credit Risk Managers, and senior management, as well as external meetings with clients and prospects.
  • Participate in special projects and assignments and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate a high level of ownership in line of business and team initiatives, flexibility in responding to deadlines, and attention to detail.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent work experience.
  • Related experience in Financial Services, Banking Industry, Credit Analysis, Loan Review, or similar background preferred.
  • Experience as a Credit Analyst I or equivalent role preferred.
  • Familiarity with financial instruments and processes used to analyze financial data.
  • Good understanding of general bank operations and the lending process.
  • Strong computer skills with Access, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and proficiency in Excel.
  • Ability to communicate information clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports and legal documents; perform calculations; and evaluate information to make decisions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with financial modeling and forecasting.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements in the banking industry.
