About the position

New Valley Bank & Trust is seeking a talented and ambitious Credit Analyst to join our team in Springfield, MA. This full-time position is an entry-level client relationship management role that will support the loan origination and ongoing monitoring initiatives of the Lending Department. Under the direction of the AVP Credit Officer, the Credit Analyst will work collaboratively with Loan Officers to evaluate and determine the credit risks associated with commercial clients. The ideal candidate will possess a seasoned credit underwriting background and demonstrate a proven ability to conduct detailed financial statement analysis, industry assessments, collateral valuations, and cash flow analyses to determine the ability of clients to repay annual debt service. In this role, the Credit Analyst will be responsible for conducting initial financial analyses and obtaining complete financial packages to prepare and summarize facts regarding the creditworthiness of commercial customers. This includes reviewing and analyzing criteria to assign an overall risk to credit, developing credit analyses for lending decisions, and monitoring the annual review and renewal processes for assigned credit requests. The Credit Analyst will also communicate with customers to request and track the receipt of required financial information, ensuring that new money transactions are prioritized appropriately. The position requires strong analytical, problem-solving, and judgment skills, as well as the ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining accuracy and turnaround times. The Credit Analyst will also be responsible for submitting appraisal orders, flood determination requests, and environmental reports, as well as completing compliance reviews and assisting in taking minutes for Directors Loan Committee meetings. Adherence to all bank and regulatory policies and procedures is essential, along with the completion of BSA, AML, and other regulatory training as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Loan Officer on new loan requests, including initial financial analysis and obtaining a complete financial package.
  • Prepare, summarize, and present facts and opinions concerning the creditworthiness of commercial customers.
  • Develop credit analyses for lending decisions on new credit approvals and renewals.
  • Coordinate with Loan Officers to assist in the collection of financial information from portfolio customers.
  • Analyze and review data on new loans and portfolio loans for signs of credit issues.
  • Monitor the annual review/renewal process, including file comments and loan presentations for assigned credit requests.
  • Maintain and track bank policy exceptions and assist in timely completion of annual reviews.
  • Communicate with customers to request and track the receipt of required financial information.
  • Submit appraisal order requests and bids, flood determination requests, and environmental reports.
  • Complete compliance reviews, including CRA, Government Monitoring, and Joint Credit.
  • Assist in taking Directors Loan Committee meeting minutes and complete other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in commercial credit or public accounting, preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial loan documentation and banking laws and regulations.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with financial statement analysis and cash flow analysis.
  • Familiarity with compliance and regulatory requirements in banking.
