About the position

The Credit Officer I - Underwriter for Renewable Energy plays a crucial role in the loan management process by providing credit and loan underwriting expertise specifically for cash flow lending and leveraged finance within the Renewable Energy sector. This position involves analyzing prospective loan transactions, validating credit analyses, and ensuring thorough due diligence before submitting Credit Risk Recommendations (CRR).

Responsibilities

  • Review loan requests, historical financial information, cash flow projections, and third-party reporting to evaluate credit structure and terms.
  • Fully underwrite CRR consistent with Bank format, policies, and procedures, ensuring accurate data and analytics support the decision.
  • Attend client meetings to facilitate credit product delivery and assist in problem resolution as needed.
  • Contact borrowers for additional information related to loan requests or clarification of financial materials.
  • Provide balanced credit guidance to Relationship Managers and collaborate on credit strategy.
  • Offer credit alternatives and creative structuring to ensure transactions meet profitability and risk standards.
  • Author credit approval memorandums and provide input on loan pricing reflecting inherent risks.
  • Perform quarterly Problem Loan reporting and monitor covenants and conditions of criticized/classified credits.
  • Identify early problem loans and respond to past dues in partnership with Relationship Managers.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Bank lending policies and regulations, conferring with the Credit Manager on requirements.
  • Coordinate loan documentation with legal and outside counsel to protect the Bank's interests.
  • Participate in training and development of Credit Analysts on financial statement analysis and cash flow modeling.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in underwriting small-sized cash flow loans.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a banking or financial services environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Credit and loan underwriting expertise in the Renewable Energy sector.
  • College degree in Business Administration preferred or a related field.
  • MBA preferred.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well independently and in teams.
