About the position

The Credit Review Audit Manager at Northwest Bank is responsible for overseeing independent assessments of the bank's loan portfolios to identify and report significant risks. This role involves evaluating credit risks, improving governance processes, and ensuring compliance with policies. The manager will lead the Credit Review Audit team, develop departmental standards, and provide objective evaluations of credit quality to executive management and the Audit Committee.

Responsibilities

  • Manage personal workload/workflow while overseeing the day-to-day functions of the credit review staff.
  • Detect and assess common themes and emerging risks in loan portfolios.
  • Gather and analyze loan-related financial information to assess borrower strengths and weaknesses.
  • Identify early signs of loan problems and validate or amend risk ratings as appropriate.
  • Facilitate the completion of periodic loan review reports.
  • Establish and execute the credit review audit strategy.
  • Oversee target loan reviews based on emerging risk factors.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of credit policies and procedures, identify weaknesses, and provide suggestions for improvement.
  • Manage credit review software to ensure adherence to policy and departmental objectives.
  • Prepare executive summary reports for the Audit Committee and senior management.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of relevant banking regulations and accounting requirements.
  • Assist in the annual risk assessment process and development of the annual audit plan.
  • Monitor major initiatives and projects related to internal controls and governance.
  • Coordinate validation testing with outsourced internal audit service providers and audit staff.
  • Oversee audits conducted by outsourced service providers and credit audit staff, ensuring compliance with IIA standards.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in credit review or audit management within a banking environment.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess loan portfolios and identify risks.
  • Expert knowledge of banking regulations and accounting standards.
  • Experience in managing teams and overseeing audit processes.
  • Ability to prepare and present reports to senior management and the Audit Committee.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in internal auditing (CIA, CISA) or similar credentials.
  • Experience with credit review software and data analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with emerging credit risks and climate risk assessments.
