About the position

The Lead Data Center Technician will support both the Physical and Virtual Infrastructure of the organization and its facilities. This role is responsible for driving data center best practices and industry standards into working processes and procedures, ensuring a safe and secure operating environment while coordinating various data center activities.

Responsibilities

  • Directly support and coordinate all scheduled data center MACs based on set DCIT calendar event scheduling.
  • Implement cable work order (CWO) MACs, testing and certification, and assist with crafting LV project BOM and scope documents.
  • Conduct asset auditing and maintain daily error logs.
  • Provide equipment installation MACs, including device labeling, power connectivity, and LV cable connectivity.
  • Provide smart-hands assistance as required and maintain a safe operating environment within the GPN data center.
  • Document and keep records related to asset installation layout, cable plant patch matrix, and cable labeling standards.
  • Maintain the secure hard drive disk (HDD) bin and log, ensuring compliance with retention practices.
  • Coordinate equipment/material receiving, shipping, and RMA processing support as needed.
  • Troubleshoot layer-1 suspected cable plant issues and manage networking, storage, and general power distribution.
  • Develop, document, and monitor performance measures and processes for audit and operational compliance related to data center best practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field.
  • At least six (6) months of supervisory and/or managerial experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project).
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and project documents, including specifications and quality requirements.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and critical thinking abilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ISO 27001 / 9001 and TIA/EIA-942 certifications.
  • Familiarity with data center infrastructure management (DCIM) tools.
