About the position

The Crew Leader is responsible for supervising day-to-day operations of work crews to ensure the proper maintenance of City-owned landscape areas, parks, and rights-of-ways. This role involves overseeing groundskeepers and landscapers, maintaining plant health, operating landscaping equipment, and ensuring safety and proper use of tools. The Crew Leader also plays a crucial role in training and developing personnel while being available for emergency call-outs and special events.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Groundskeepers/Landscapers.
  • Maintain and replace plants and trees throughout the City in excessive traffic situations, if needed.
  • Operate one-ton dump truck, trailers, large mowers and other small equipment for landscaping and maintenance.
  • Identify weed problems in turf and notify proper crews.
  • Identify and inform proper crew of insects, diseases and nutrient deficiencies on turf and shrubs.
  • Ensure safe and proper use of tools and equipment and proper maintenance. Accountable for all tools and equipment used.
  • Lead, assign, train and develop groundskeeper/landscaper personnel.
  • Responsible for the proper care and maintenance of turf, fields, and/or nurseries, ensuring the overall health and appearance of all green spaces.
  • In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description.
  • Perform as necessary the duties of the Groundskeeper/Landscaper.
  • Complete required trainings as specified within the City's Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.
  • Drive to and from City work sites.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Be available for emergency call-outs & special events.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years' experience in landscaping, to include supervisory experience.
  • Valid driver license. Must obtain State of Florida Driver License within thirty (30) days of employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Experience in ballfield maintenance.
  • Completion and receipt of (2) job related certifications/Licenses (i.e. Limited Lawn & Ornamental Spray License, FDOT MOT Certification, Best Management Practices Certification, etc.) as determined by your supervisor. Must complete within six (6) months of employment.
