About the position

The Crime Analyst position at the City of Charleston involves performing complex analyses related to crime patterns and trends to support the police department's operational personnel. The role focuses on enhancing law enforcement capabilities through data analysis, geographical mapping, and collaboration with various divisions within the police department.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, prepare, and disseminate analytical data relevant to crime series, trends, and patterns.
  • Perform geographical mapping analyses related to crime and perpetrators.
  • Work with Investigation, Uniform, and Administrative Operations divisions to evaluate and report on major crime activities.
  • Identify crime patterns through daily case reviews and crime statistics comparisons.
  • Advise personnel of crime patterns and anticipated criminal activity.
  • Assist in gathering data for weekly Compstat meetings and monthly reports.
  • Aid in planning resource deployment for crime prevention and suppression.
  • Coordinate analysis activities with other City departments and outside agencies.
  • Respond to requests for crime analysis information related to specific investigations.
  • Prepare and distribute reports, charts, and publications to track and explain findings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public or business administration, criminal justice, information management, or a related field.
  • One year of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, ArcMap, GIS concepts, and SQL.
