About the position

The Crime Laboratory Assistant position at the Baltimore Police Department involves documenting, monitoring, and coordinating forensic evidence processes. The position operates under general supervision and does not involve supervisory duties, working primarily in an office, laboratory, or crime scene environment.

Responsibilities

  • Document and monitor forensic evidence processes.
  • Coordinate the handling and processing of forensic evidence.
  • Develop databases and spreadsheet reports related to forensic evidence.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders, including the State's Attorneys Office and Police Department officials.
  • Prepare fiscal and statistical reports as needed.
  • Maintain records, files, and reporting systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Three years of experience in office work, including one year of experience creating databases or spreadsheets.
  • A bachelor's degree in criminalistics, forensics, chemistry, biology, physics, or a related science may substitute for the experience requirement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in forensic science or criminalistics.
  • Familiarity with laboratory procedures and protocols.
