About the position

The Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is looking for an experienced, and highly motivated Crime Victim Advocates to join our office. The work as a Crime Victim Advocate involves providing professional criminal justice services to victims and their families, working with difficult or complex situations involving victims, and providing a higher level of support to deputy prosecuting attorneys in complicated cases. As someone who works well under pressure and tight timelines, work in this role involves decisions with serious consequences and requires an intimate familiarity with the structure and dynamics of the criminal justice system and victim rights as well as the values and attitudes of the community.

Responsibilities

  • Interviews and counsels victims, assesses needs, responds to crisis situations, provides resources and makes referrals to community agencies.
  • Orients victims to the criminal justice system and works with deputy prosecuting attorneys in responding to victim questions about the legal process.
  • Provides emotional support and crisis intervention to victims during trials and court hearings.
  • Investigates, evaluates and prepares restitution information in felony cases.
  • Assists victims with Crime Victim Compensation and intervenes on behalf of the victim with the state compensation program.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in sociology, psychology or related criminal justice field.
  • Two or more years of experience in criminal justice or social casework.
  • Ability to successfully complete and pass a thorough background investigation and interview.
  • A valid Washington State driver's license.
