About the position

The Law Offices of Anna R. Yum is seeking a highly motivated criminal defense attorney to manage a robust caseload involving various criminal matters, including misdemeanors and felonies. The role requires effective courtroom litigation, negotiation of plea bargains, and comprehensive case management. The ideal candidate will be confident in the courtroom and possess a minimum of two years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively litigate pre-trial hearings and motions, including preliminary hearings and jury trials.
  • Negotiate potential dispositions or plea bargains for felonies and misdemeanors.
  • Take responsibility for client cases, including conducting meetings and recommending strategies.
  • Communicate with prosecutors, witnesses, and experts; ensure accurate and timely filings.
  • Attend hearings and delegate work to paralegals, law clerks, and legal assistants.
  • Defend clients in administrative per se hearings for DUI cases.
  • Defend against and/or prosecute temporary restraining order hearings.
  • Perform research, draft briefs, pleadings, and motions.
  • Argue motions in court on behalf of clients during legal proceedings.
  • Prepare for and conduct both jury and bench trials.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years prior criminal law experience handling misdemeanors and low-level felonies.
  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active member of the California State Bar with no disciplinary record.
  • Strong decision-making, public speaking, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive to various courthouses in Southern California.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior criminal jury trial experience is preferred.
