About the position

The Palmer Criminal Division of the Alaska Court System (ACS) is recruiting for a Court Case Manager 2 (salary range 12). This position requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Employees transferring from another State of Alaska agency or applicants with prior legal work experience or education in the legal field may receive consideration for advance step placement. The position involves acting as a legal technician for criminal cases, screening all criminal motions that require the court's or clerk's determination using the case management system, sending deficiency notices when needed, researching and evaluating cases, reviewing documents, entering dockets and motions into the case management system, acting as the second clerk for out of custody arraignments, and processing case management reports.

Responsibilities

  • Act as legal technician for criminal cases.
  • Screen all criminal motions that require the court's or clerk's determination using the case management system.
  • Send deficiency notices when needed, using the case management system for follow up.
  • Research and evaluate cases to determine correct course of action in accordance with laws, rules, court policies, and procedures.
  • Review documents, orders, judgments, and court notes and take appropriate action.
  • Enter dockets, motions, dispositions, judicial reassignment, parties, and attorneys into the case management system.
  • Act as the second clerk for out of custody arraignments and District Court change of plea hearings when needed.
  • Train other staff on procedures and processes for the No Dark Courtroom project.
  • Process and monitor case management reports, including motion pull report, SIS report, and various audit reports as needed.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of advanced clerical work experience equivalent to a Court Case Manager 1 with the Alaska Court System or an equivalent position with another employer AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).
  • OR Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND completion of a two-year paralegal curriculum from an accredited institution AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).
  • OR A bachelor's degree from an accredited college AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience performing data entry while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Experience organizing high-priority tasks.
  • Experience working independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with confidential or sensitive information.
  • Experience in customer service handling difficult or dissatisfied customers, both in person and over the telephone.
  • Experience researching Alaska Rules of Court and Alaska Statutes.
  • Experience working criminal files and/or in-court experience.
