About the position

The Chief of Staff for the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) at the Department of Justice (DOJ) plays a critical role in overseeing criminal investigations and administrative processes involving DOJ employees and operations. This position requires expert planning and coordination of complex investigations, advising senior leadership, and developing strategic initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of the Investigations Division. The Chief of Staff will also represent the division in high-level meetings and ensure compliance with legal and operational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts criminal and administrative investigations requiring expert planning and coordination.
  • Plans, organizes, and conducts investigations regarding a wide variety of allegations received by the OIG.
  • Apprehends and arrests individuals violating U.S. laws and conducts searches and seizures as appropriate.
  • Independently plans and coordinates complex and time-sensitive special projects vital to the Division's operations.
  • Provides advice and recommendations to Division leaders on operational changes impacting staff.
  • Plans and carries out the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data for strategic planning purposes.
  • Serves as a senior criminal investigator and advisor to the AIGI and DAIGI for Investigations.
  • Represents the AIGI/DAIGI in committee meetings with senior OIG leadership and staff.
  • Develops annual and long-range investigative plans and participates in strategic planning and budgeting.
  • Prepares status, statistical, and special reports as required.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
  • Must successfully pass and be subject to random drug screenings.
  • Must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Must maintain firearm proficiency and pass periodic tests.
  • Must possess a valid state-issued driver's license.
  • Must provide a Certificate of completion for Criminal Investigator Training Program or equivalent.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in federal law enforcement or similar investigative roles.
  • Advanced degree in criminal justice or related field.
