About the position

This position is open to Alaskan Residents only. The Criminal Justice Technician will perform essential research on various criminal records from local and state agencies, ensuring the accurate processing of arrest and disposition information into the state's criminal history repository. This repository is crucial for public safety, as it is utilized by both criminal justice and non-criminal justice agencies throughout Alaska and nationwide. The technician will coordinate and respond to requests for record reviews from the department, criminal justice agencies, and the public. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, courts, and correctional facilities to obtain source documents related to criminal history events. The criminal records unit plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the state's criminal history repository. The information processed is critical for making informed decisions based on criminal history records, which directly impacts public safety. By joining this team, the technician will have the opportunity to promote public safety and provide support and technical assistance to various stakeholders, including law enforcement and the public. Responsibilities

  • Perform research on various criminal records from local and state agencies.
  • Process arrest and disposition information into the state's criminal history repository.
  • Coordinate and respond to requests for record reviews from the department, criminal justice agencies, and the public.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, courts, and correctional facilities to obtain source documents for criminal history events.

Requirements

  • Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in accountability, computer skills, interpersonal skills, oral and written communication, and problem-solving.
  • Successful completion of training under a formally established Criminal Justice Technician 1-2 flexible staffing training plan with the State of Alaska for Criminal Justice Technician 2.
  • Experience in criminal justice, juvenile justice, probation, parole, public safety, law enforcement, corrections, court, legal services, law office, social services, social sciences, or public assistance programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in research and data management.
  • Familiarity with the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN).
  • Knowledge of criminal justice processes and terminology.
