About the position

Ardelle Associates, a veteran-owned company providing Consulting and Support Services to government agencies and contractors, is seeking a dedicated Paralegal with experience in Criminal cases to join our team in order to support the DOJ/U.S. Attorneys Office (USAO) in Newark, NJ. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment that values quality service and professionalism. The Criminal Paralegal will provide essential support on pending investigations and cases within the Criminal Division, performing a variety of administrative and case-support functions. This includes document management and review, conducting searches within various data and document sets, and analyzing and summarizing various data sets. The role requires effective case file organization and management, as well as the ability to communicate professionally with all levels of staff, including legal support staff and Assistant U.S. Attorneys (AUSAs). The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of legal documents such as indictments, complaints, affidavits, motions, orders, subpoenas, search warrants, briefs, and memoranda. They will also be tasked with obtaining information from files, law enforcement agencies, or other sources, and may assist with interviews of agents and potential witnesses. The role involves reviewing, summarizing, and outlining grand jury and/or trial testimony, as well as researching, analyzing, and summarizing relevant legal precedents. The Criminal Paralegal will monitor the progress of pending cases, ensuring that legal documents and other materials are prepared and submitted within established deadlines, and will compile, organize, and index various discovery and evidence exhibits for trial. This position requires proficiency in using MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat Professional, along with familiarity with document management systems such as Eclipse, Relativity, and/or Casemap. Strong communication skills, excellent organizational abilities, and attention to detail are essential for managing large volumes of digital evidence and documents. The candidate should have a strong background in research and analytical skills, particularly in the legal field, and be able to work effectively as part of a team in a professional office setting. The role is full-time, with a standard 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, and federal holidays provided.

Responsibilities

  • Provide paralegal support on pending investigations and cases within the Criminal Division.
  • Perform administrative and case-support functions, including document management and review.
  • Conduct searches within various data and document sets, and analyze and summarize various data sets.
  • Organize and manage case files effectively.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of staff, including legal support staff and AUSAs.
  • Assist in the preparation of legal documents such as indictments, complaints, affidavits, motions, orders, subpoenas, search warrants, briefs, and memoranda.
  • Obtain information from files, law enforcement agencies, or other sources.
  • Assist with interviews of agents and potential witnesses.
  • Review, summarize, and outline grand jury and/or trial testimony.
  • Research, analyze, and summarize relevant legal precedents.
  • Monitor the progress of pending cases and ensure that legal documents are prepared and submitted within established deadlines.
  • Compile, organize, and index various discovery and evidence exhibits for trial.
  • Perform docketing duties and maintain calendars of assigned active cases.
  • Produce written documents and materials using office software applications.
  • Provide automated litigation assistance to attorneys using various software applications and graphics hardware.

Requirements

  • Valid Paralegal Certificate certification.
  • 3 years of experience as a Criminal/Litigation Paralegal.
  • Proficiency in using MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
  • Familiarity with document management systems such as Eclipse, Relativity, and/or Casemap.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work professionally with all levels of staff.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage large volumes of digital evidence and documents.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to review and analyze complex data sets and documents.
  • Ability to work as a team member and facilitate work processes among other staff members.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to research legal precedents and analyze appellate records.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in medical billing, finance, economics, and/or accounting would be highly useful.
  • Experience in reviewing, accessing, and searching publicly available materials, governmental databases, and other sources to identify possible violations of federal fraud and other applicable criminal statutes.
