About the position

The Crisis Clinician is responsible for providing mental health services to children and youth in crisis, including conducting assessments, facilitating psychotherapy, and collaborating with treatment teams. This role requires a strong understanding of community-based services and the ability to work in both office and community settings. The clinician will also support agency staff during crises and maintain a caseload of outpatient clients, ensuring compliance with agency standards and quality assurance protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Complete admission assessments for new and returning clients.
  • Facilitate individual and family psychotherapy to meet productivity expectations.
  • Complete state hospital alternative screens when appropriate.
  • Conduct SED Waiver evaluations for youth transitioning from PRTF level of care.
  • Complete PRTF pre-authorizations and face-to-face evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Conduct daily follow-up crisis sessions with youth admitted to YCRC.
  • Follow critical care protocol to support youth at risk of suicide.
  • Provide support to agency staff as first responders during crises.
  • Collaborate with clients, families, and treatment teams to identify treatment goals and discharge criteria.
  • Maintain a caseload of outpatient clients.
  • Interface with agencies related to child welfare and mental health.
  • Refer clients to community-based services as needed.
  • Practice the philosophy of WrapAround Services for assessing needs and delivering services.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings for case assignments and planning.
  • Complete clinical documentation in compliance with agency standards and funding sources.
  • Stay informed of agency developments through written communication.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and act as an ambassador for the agency in the community.
  • Support the community during unexpected tragedies.
  • Provide mobile crisis response as needed.
  • Facilitate psychotherapy groups at least twice a week for youth in YCRC.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by team leaders or supervisors.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a recognized mental health discipline (Social Work, Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy, or Psychology).
  • Valid license to practice independently at the clinical level in Kansas (e.g., LSCSW, LCMFT).
  • 1+ years of experience working with children.
  • Satisfactory verbal and written communication skills.
  • Sufficient interpersonal skills to promote teamwork and collaboration.
  • Familiarity with MS Office products and ability to type for electronic documentation.
  • Good work ethic and flexibility in work schedule.
  • Effective clinical skills, time management, and organizational skills.
