About the position

RIDGEVIEW, a not-for-profit community mental health center based in Oak Ridge, TN, has an immediate opening for a PRN (as needed) Mental Health Crisis Counselor. Our Mobile Crisis Team is on the job 24/7 so this position is ideal as a second job or for a stay-at-home parent wishing to maintain their skills the commitment of a full-time job. Our crisis center operates 24 hours/day and 7 days/week to provide crisis assessments either in person or via telehealth from our main center location. We provide full training for you to competently conduct mental health assessments and you will have seasoned team leads available for consult throughout your tenure. Your assessments are a needed service for community members experiencing a broad range of mental health, behavioral, and/or substance abuse issues. You will be the person there when families are struggling the most.

Responsibilities

  • Provides assessment of adults experiencing a psychiatric emergency.
  • Determines mental health crisis needs, crisis intervention, telephone consultation, linkage with community resources, and pre-screening admissions of emergency hospital commitments.
  • Follows up to ensure appropriate service is available.
  • Uses a telehealth system to provide some of these services in various locations.
  • Some travel required to provide service in Ridgeview's 5-county catchment area using a Ridgeview-provided car.
  • Displays positive interaction and communication with community agencies and other public relations activities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in social work, psychology, or counseling.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid TN driver's license and a safe driving record.
  • LMSW/Temporary LPC license or the ability to obtain one of these licenses within a 6 month time frame is preferred.
  • New graduates will be considered.
  • Candidate will obtain Mandatory Prescreening Agent (MPA) designation upon hire or when the license is obtained; training is provided.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills required.
  • Knowledge of DSM5 criteria and ability to determine preliminary mental health diagnosis.
