About the position
The Critical Care RN position at the University of Maryland Medical System involves providing and coordinating independent care to patients within a clinical specialty. This role is essential for nurses with over 12 months of experience, serving as a clinical resource and participating actively in a multidisciplinary patient care team. The position requires accountability for patient outcomes, collaboration with the healthcare team, and participation in quality improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Provides independent care to unit specific patient population.
- Serves as clinical resource for others and integrates evidence into practice.
- Accountable to patients and families for care processes and outcomes.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care.
- Participates in team development and evaluation of the Relationship-Based Care model.
- Assists in the collection of data related to Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI).
- Supports charge nurse decisions and performs charge role as needed.
- Serves as preceptor, coach, and mentor to new nurses and students.
- Ensures patient safety and participates in patient safety initiatives.
Requirements
- Unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maryland or a Nurse Compact License (NSL).
- BSN preferred.
- Two years recent critical care nursing experience.
- Maintenance of 10 contact hours of education every two years.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Nice-to-haves
- National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
