About the position

The Critical Environment Field Service Engineer (CE FSE) plays a vital role in supporting the infrastructure and foundational technologies for online services such as Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Azure platform. This position is part of the Cloud Operation & Innovation (CO+I) team, which emphasizes personal and professional development, offering training and growth opportunities. The CE FSE is responsible for ensuring the operational efficiency of data centers, managing critical environment infrastructure, and adhering to safety and security policies.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with data center business unit and service-level policies.
  • Engage with appropriate teams and resources to execute tasks or projects.
  • Manage programs associated with the area of responsibility.
  • Demonstrate conscientiousness on cost adherence to budget requirements; keep costs reasonable and contribute to staying within budget.
  • Follow and adhere to safety and security policies and procedures; report any safety or security issues immediately.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) processes as appropriate.
  • Maximize Critical Environment (CE) availability in conjunction with landlord partners at leased data centers.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in leased data centers.
  • Reduce high-impact and human-error Critical Environment (CE) incidents year over year.
  • Deliver on cost/energy efficiency initiatives.
  • Support delivery of the data center's Emergency Preparedness and Response plan and act as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues.
  • Coordinate, plan, schedule, and supervise CE audit and compliance verification as needed.
  • Ensure routine reporting to effectively manage and analyze Power/Temperature/Relative Humidity, and SLA monitoring.
  • Establish and enhance working relationships with the Engineering Group and landlord partners.
  • Work with regional and global peers to share and build best practices across the entire data center portfolio.

Requirements

  • High School Qualification or equivalent AND 3+ years experience supporting IT equipment or related technology or delivering server and network deployment projects in large-scale environments.
  • Ability to meet customer and/or government security screening requirements, including a Cloud Background Check and Criminal Justice Information Service background check.
  • Bachelor's or Technical College Degree in Computer Science, Math, Telecommunication, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain Management or related field AND 8+ years experience in Critical Environment infrastructure or physical IT infrastructure.
  • Applicable certifications: APICS/Inventory Control, CompTIA, Network Certification, CCNA Certification, ITIL v3 Foundation, Operation Framework (MOF) Certification.
