About the position

The Regional Safety Engineer - Critical Project Implementation at AWS is a pivotal role for an experienced Health and Safety (H&S) Specialist, Engineer, or Manager. This position focuses on supporting AWS Data Center Planning and Delivery (DCPD) programs by collaborating with internal teams and external contractors to enhance health and safety practices. The role involves developing and implementing safety programs, ensuring compliance with jurisdictional requirements, and fostering a culture of safety within AWS operations.

Responsibilities

• Influence program development, framework, and strategy for H&S.
• Deploy programs covering H&S elements of leadership, planning, support, operational controls, and continuous improvement.
• Develop and implement the organizational Incident Prevention Model (IPM) and roadmap.
• Align IPM with AWS Construction Safety Management Systems.
• Implement existing mechanisms that operationalize the AWS Construction Safety Management System.
• Deploy industry-recognized H&S cultural assessments and develop action items based on results.
• Implement Procore H&S functionality within CPI operations and bridge data collection from operational H&S management systems.
• Develop CPI Global Minimum H&S Standards incorporating existing construction standards and operational safety policies.
• Establish CPI H&S key performance indicators and metric output mechanisms.
• Implement lessons learned processes to drive organization H&S education and upskilling.
• Develop CPI H&S training program and support operational controls for safe project execution.
• Support project managers in executing the H&S safety management system during all phases of CPI projects.
• Ensure and monitor AWS vendors' compliance to onboarding requirements in Avetta.
• Develop H&S kickoff standard work processes for project managers and review AWS vendor's safety management plans.
• Manage 3rd party/internal H&S resources on CPI projects through regular reviews.
• Identify improvement opportunities across projects and partner with Data Center Health and Safety Operational Team on issues impacting CPI project delivery.
• Audit projects to ensure adherence to processes and report trends, risks, and opportunities.
• Conduct regular site visits with H&S 3rd party resources and project managers.

Requirements

• 7-10 years of experience in health and safety, contractor management, or program implementation.
• Construction and/or retrofit H&S experience.
• Knowledge of Critical Infrastructure and Data Center construction and operations.
• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field.
• Advanced certification in occupational health and safety from recognized agencies.
• Familiarity with organizational standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, or ISO 45001.

Nice-to-haves
