About the position

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is representing a progressive Indiana Farm in their search for an experienced Crop Production Manager. This individual will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations on the farm, with a primary focus on maximizing quality and revenue through effective cropping operations. The Crop Production Manager will lead farm production operations, providing consultation and support to additional farming operations, including crop production, crop inputs, and equipment management. This role requires a strong understanding of agricultural best practices and land management to direct daily operations in alignment with identified environmental and revenue goals. The Crop Production Manager will supervise both full-time and part-time employees, ensuring that the team is effectively led and motivated towards achieving the outlined mission. This position involves coordinating tasks among farm personnel, working closely with agronomists to refine the crop plan, and overseeing the procurement of crop inputs. The manager will also be responsible for property maintenance, assisting in the purchase of equipment, and liaising with neighbors to maintain good relationships within the community. In addition to operational management, the Crop Production Manager will communicate regularly with farm owners to provide daily assessments of farm performance and progress towards goals. They will monitor the effectiveness of implemented crop management strategies and assist in the recruitment, hiring, and training of farm employees. This role requires excellent judgment and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to maintain strong local relationships through open communication.

Responsibilities

  • Managing farm personnel, including coordinating tasks
  • Working with agronomists to refine the crop plan
  • Finding and purchasing crop inputs
  • Property maintenance and assisting in purchasing equipment
  • Liaising with neighbors and maintaining relationships
  • Leading and motivating the farm crew
  • Coordinating preparations for future growth as outlined in the Farm Business Plan
  • Communicating with owners on daily assessments of the farm and its goals
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of implemented crop management strategies
  • Assisting in the recruitment, hiring, and training of farm employees
  • Managing personnel schedules and conflicts
  • Communicating with partners to ensure infrastructure and equipment are in good working order
  • Tracking expenses meticulously for supplies, equipment, and contracts
  • Engaging with contractors on large-scale projects
  • Building relationships with potential customers
  • Handling other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Ag Degree preferred but not required
  • 5 years of agronomic experience with large scale commercial crops preferred
  • 5+ years in a management role within a comparable structure or operation preferred
  • Experience managing an extended team is preferred
  • Proven ability to supervise people and manage large farm teams
  • Demonstrated expertise in crop production
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to professionally represent the farm in business and environmental areas
  • Demonstrated understanding of operational planning, human resource management, and farm health and safety
  • Excellent judgment and problem-solving skills.
