About the position
The City of Oxnard's Police Department is seeking a part-time Crossing Guard with strong interpersonal and customer service skills. The ideal candidate will be reliable and enjoy working with children. This position is a regular, part-time position working 20 hours per week. In addition, this position may be required to be available to work additional hours in response to peaks in workloads and changes in department needs. This position is governed by the overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay.
Responsibilities
- Pedestrian safety while crossing streets
- Alert drivers of the presence of children and pedestrians
- Traffic control
- Controls traffic to ensure safety and assists students and members of the community across City intersections
- Remains alert, monitors traffic flow and directs traffic at appropriate times using signage and motions
- Determines safe conditions for pedestrian crossing
- Reports license numbers of automobiles failing to stop as signaled
- Responds to inquiries regarding street and facility location
- Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned
Requirements
- No formal education is required for this position
- No formal experience is required for this position
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid class C California driver's license
- Must be able to speak and understand English to effectively communicate with fellow employees, customers, and vendors
