About the position

The Cryogenic Mechanical Engineer at Chart Industries is responsible for overseeing the technical engineering aspects throughout the design and fabrication of cryogenic equipment, specifically for Hydrogen and Helium Liquefiers. This role involves managing projects from contract initiation to job closure, ensuring compliance with design codes and safety regulations, and providing technical assistance and problem resolution. The engineer will work closely with various teams to support project requirements and contribute to the company's mission of delivering sustainable solutions across multiple industries.

Responsibilities

  • Pipe ASME B31.3 and B31.12 using Caesar II.
  • Perform ASME Pressure Vessel Code calculations using COMPRESS.
  • Conduct finite element analysis of vacuum cold boxes, valve boxes, and equipment skids using ANSYS.
  • Execute heat leak calculation and evaluation.
  • Conduct vendor and fabricator inspections and provide commissioning/start-up support.
  • Identify and pursue technical and commercial resolution to project changes.
  • Collaborate with Project Controls and Quality groups to support project and departmental requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance and problem resolution.
  • Coordinate mechanical design activities to comply with design codes and safety regulations.
  • Review and apply mechanical design specifications to engineering, design, and fabrication efforts.
  • Review and approve fabrication drawings and documents.
  • Interpret customer specifications and contract requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • 5+ years hands-on mechanical engineering experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple parallel projects.
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Experience with engineering software including ANSYS, Caesar II, COMPRESS, and SolidWorks is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and succeed in a team environment.
  • Experience working in an environment where responsibility and accountability were expected.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience with Industry Standard Codes (ASME Section VIII, B31.3, B31.12; ISC, ASTM, AWS, OSHA, CGA) and/or international equivalents (PED, CRN, CML).
  • Industrial fabrication or construction experience.
  • Understanding of other engineering disciplines.
  • Experience in cryogenic gas processing including natural gas, helium, hydrogen purification, liquefaction and distribution, and separation and rejection facilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SolidWorks.
  • Familiarity with international engineering codes and standards.
