About the position

The Cryptologic Engagement Officer role at the National Security Agency (NSA) involves engaging with various stakeholders, including the Department of Defense (DoD), Intelligence Community (IC), and foreign partners. The primary focus is on developing and nurturing relationships, assessing stakeholder needs, and providing timely support while navigating the internal and external political landscape. This position is crucial for delivering products, protecting assets, and influencing policy within the agency's mission areas.

Responsibilities

  • Developing, nurturing, and/or negotiating relationships with the Department of Defense (DoD), Intelligence Community (IC), Industry and foreign partners.
  • Operating in a collaborative and responsive environment, maximizing dynamic partner capabilities.
  • Assessing stakeholder needs and identifying capabilities to address those needs.
  • Providing timely and effective support and information sharing within appropriate legal authorities.
  • Identifying the internal and external politics that impact the work of the organization and responding accordingly.

Requirements

  • A degree in any field is acceptable.
  • Military training must include at least 18 semester hours of coursework on serving as a liaison or in NSA mission areas.
  • Relevant experience must include one or more of the following: an area directly related to NSA mission (e.g., collection, intelligence, cryptology), NSA/IC/DoD mission support, NSA/IC/DoD inter-agency support, or NSA-relevant industry, academic, or governmental entities.
  • Entry-level qualifications include a high school diploma or GED plus 5 years of relevant experience, or an Associate's degree plus 3 years, or military training plus 3 years, or a Bachelor's degree plus 2 years, or a Master's degree plus 1 year, or a Doctoral degree with no experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • 15+ years of experience in supporting national incident surges and threats to homeland security.
  • Specific knowledge of counterterrorism (CT) mission set and experience with National Security Council level engagements.
  • Ability to navigate sensitive political and operational situations related to the CT mission.
  • Historical knowledge of CT mission area to enable navigation of nuances with key partners.
