About the position

The CSM-STAND intern will work closely with Pact's Governance team, focusing on communications and thought leadership products while providing essential administrative support for the CSM-STAND Leader Award's monitoring, evaluation, learning, and reporting. This internship is tailored for students who are exploring career paths outside of academia, offering them a unique opportunity to familiarize themselves with the practitioner world. The program aims to provide mentorship and support in developing skills that are highly valued in the international development sector. The intern will play a crucial role in communicating evidence about civil society and media interventions across various geographies and to diverse audiences. This position will help interns gain valuable experience in data visualization, qualitative analysis, advanced database software or programming skills, foreign language proficiency, teaching and public speaking, and knowledge management.

Responsibilities

  • Research and write practitioner-friendly newsletter items and blog posts on topics related to the CSM-STAND Learning Agenda and Governance thought leadership.
  • Combine data, graphics, and narrative to report on the CSM-STAND portfolio of programs using PowerBI; write reports and create presentations for donors based on this data.
  • Conduct an in-depth investigation into one of the CSM-STAND programs, documenting its contributions to changes in its context, and develop a case study and presentation on lessons learned for other programs.
  • Maintain and update CSM-STAND databases in Airtable and PowerBI, as well as SharePoint sites.
  • Document processes for data and knowledge management, and create new processes for qualitative data management and analysis using MaxQDA.
  • Support event planning for public roundtables or brownbag discussions on CSM-STAND technical products, thought leadership, and learning for donor and partner audiences.
  • Prepare and present a presentation on your dissertation research for a practitioner audience.

Requirements

  • Social science master's degree or bachelor's degree with 2+ years of experience.
  • Research experience in international development and/or foreign affairs.
  • Teaching or adult education experience.
  • Experience with qualitative research and data collection methods.
  • Very strong writing and presentation skills, with a desire to improve.
  • Intermediate or advanced knowledge of Excel and Word (finalists will be tested).
  • Previous experience working or volunteering with civil society organizations.
  • Familiarity with USAID-funded international development programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • At the dissertation phase of a Ph.D. program.
  • Proficiency in Arabic, French, Nepalese, Sinhala, Spanish, or Tamil is a plus.
  • Experience organizing conferences or managing professional associations or student groups is desired.
  • Intermediate level programming languages, graphic design, statistical and/or qualitative software is a plus.
