About the position

The CSWS Operations Coordinator position at Friends of Columbia Park is a Community Service Work Study role aimed at enhancing community engagement and stewardship around Columbia Park in North Portland. The coordinator will be responsible for creating engaging content, supporting park clean-up events, and assisting in various operational tasks to promote the park's mission of serving as a cherished outdoor hub for the community.

Responsibilities

  • Create community engagement material (e.g., social media, email newsletters, and printed materials).
  • Research and assist historic preservation efforts of physical park structures.
  • Report graffiti removal requests made to the City and track progress.
  • Report maintenance requests made to the City and track progress (e.g., cottage roof and old iron fence).
  • Attend and potentially lead monthly park cleanups held the first Saturday of each month, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM.
  • Work with City horticulturalists to target areas of improvement.
  • Outreach to community and business leaders to solicit support.
  • Assist in revision of board of director documents (e.g., board handbook, agreements, and conflicts of interest attestations).
  • Research and report on successful strategies utilized by similar organizations.
  • Coordinates or contributes to projects on an ad hoc basis, as needs arise.

Requirements

  • Ability to commute to Columbia Park.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm to advance organizational mission and projects.
  • Interest in working with and organizing community members.
  • Must be proficient with computers running Windows and PC applications (e.g. MS Excel, Oracle, Access, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time.
  • Must have excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills: both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while being collaborative in resolving problems.
  • Must possess energy and drive to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge and experience working with community members, non-profit organizations, and conducting social media and marketing campaigns.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills both on the phone and in person.
