About the position

The CT Tech Reg PRN position at Sylvan Grove Hospital involves providing safe and effective imaging services to patients. The role requires flexibility in work hours and the ability to perform a variety of technical procedures independently, ensuring high-quality diagnostic studies while maintaining patient care and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates ability to adjust technique for optimal image quality and minimal radiation exposure.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor or service provider.
  • Cleans, disinfects, and maintains imaging equipment according to infection control policies.
  • Verifies clinician orders and obtains complete clinical history from patients.
  • Administers contrast media following established procedures to ensure patient safety.
  • Reviews CT/radiographic images for clinical acceptability and releases patients accordingly.
  • Responds to emergency situations and maintains life support equipment.
  • Assists other technologists in various modalities as needed.
  • Observes patient conditions and evaluates situations for necessary physician intervention.
  • Ensures proper patient identification using two unique identifiers before procedures.
  • Maintains patient privacy and comfort during exams, ensuring dignity is upheld.
  • Organizes schedule and priorities to accomplish required activities within designated time frames.
  • Follows physician instructions during procedures and exams.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in loading and operating power injection equipment.
  • Explains exam purpose and nature to patients to minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation.
  • Participates in training and orientation of departmental employees.
  • Ensures concise and legible documentation of required information.
  • Completes mandatory education without prompting.
  • Produces acceptable images as evidenced by feedback and quality audits.
  • Checks equipment for proper calibration and operational deficiencies before use.
  • Sends studies to PACS immediately after completion and prints CDs as needed.
  • Restocks linens and supplies, maintaining a clean department.
  • Transports and positions patients for procedures, assisting them on and off tables.
  • Performs patient charging activities on the day of service.
  • Applies shielding and immobilization devices as necessary.
  • Maintains individual productivity rate equal to co-workers.
  • Takes call when necessary and performs other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Graduate of AMA approved School of Radiology Technology.
  • ARRT Radiography certification required.
  • ARRT Computed Tomography certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in Radiology required; less than 1 year in CT preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills for interaction with physicians, patients, and staff.
  • Ability to function independently and under pressure in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with the capacity to multitask effectively.
  • Competent in all aspects of CT, patient positioning, exposure factors, and radiation protection.
  • Understanding of anatomy and pathology as they affect procedure quality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Less than 1 year experience in CT preferred.
