About the position

The CT Tech Weekend program at Advocate Health involves operating CT equipment to perform diagnostic imaging procedures. The role requires obtaining patient medical histories, ensuring exam accuracy, and providing radiation protection. The technician will also prepare and administer contrast media, post-process images, maintain records, and perform quality assurance tests on equipment. This position emphasizes the importance of patient care and safety, particularly in relation to age-specific needs.

Responsibilities

  • Competently operates CT equipment to perform basic and intermediate diagnostic procedures.
  • Obtains medical history from patients and compares requisitions to physicians' orders to ensure exam accuracy.
  • Positions patient and selects proper scanning factors, adjusting factors to attain appropriate images while providing radiation protection and safety.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media under the direction of the Radiologist, assisting in proper scanning techniques.
  • Post-processes images as directed and accurately identifies and labels images with patient information.
  • Prepares and maintains records in accordance with regulatory agencies and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system.
  • Identifies equipment performance issues and performs quality assurance tests and calibration procedures.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, utilizing proper lifting techniques.

Requirements

  • Radiographer license issued by the state of Wisconsin.
  • Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Computed Tomography (CT) registration issued by the ARRT needs to be obtained within 18 months.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months.
  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes completion of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology.
  • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and basic radiation safety.
  • Competent in IV and venipuncture (if required by facility).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient service skills.
