About the position

The CT Technologist position at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center involves performing diagnostic imaging procedures using computed tomography (CT) equipment. The role requires flexibility in work hours, dependability, and the ability to provide safe, age-appropriate care to patients. The technologist is responsible for obtaining quality diagnostic studies, ensuring patient safety, and maintaining equipment according to established protocols. This position requires independent judgment and technical skills to perform a variety of procedures while ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates ability to adjust technique for optimal image quality and minimal radiation exposure.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor or service provider.
  • Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment according to infection control policies.
  • Verifies clinician orders and obtains complete clinical history from patients.
  • Administers contrast media following established procedures to ensure patient safety.
  • Reviews CT images for clinical acceptability and releases patients after procedures.
  • Responds to emergency situations and maintains life support equipment.
  • Assists other technologists in various modalities as needed.
  • Observes patient conditions and evaluates situations for physician intervention.
  • Ensures patient privacy and comfort during procedures.
  • Demonstrates competence in age-appropriate procedures and techniques.
  • Organizes schedule and priorities to meet designated time frames.
  • Follows physician instructions during procedures and exams.
  • Explains the purpose and nature of exams to patients to minimize anxiety.
  • Participates in training and orientation of departmental employees.
  • Ensures accurate documentation of procedures and patient interactions.
  • Produces acceptable images and ensures equipment is operational before use.
  • Sends studies to PACS immediately after completion and maintains logs as required.
  • Restocks linens and supplies, maintaining a clean department environment.
  • Transports and positions patients for procedures, assisting them as needed.
  • Performs patient charging activities on the day of service.
  • Maintains compliance with Joint Commission and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Graduate of AMA approved School of Radiology Technology.
  • ARRT Radiography certification required upon hire.
  • ARRT Computed Tomography certification required upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in Radiology required.
  • Less than 1 year experience in CT preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills for interaction with patients, physicians, and staff.
  • Ability to function independently and under pressure in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with the capacity to multitask effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and pathology as it relates to imaging procedures.
