About the position

The Care Team Associate (CTA) position in the Medicine Specialty unit at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center involves providing essential patient care under the supervision of registered nurses. This role is crucial in monitoring patients' health status, implementing care plans, and assisting with various medical procedures. The CTA will work collaboratively within a team to ensure high-quality care for patients with diverse medical conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Systematically and continually monitor the patient's health status and implement the plan of care under the supervision of the RN.
  • Carry out physician and nursing orders as directed by the RN.
  • Take and record vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, and pulse, and weigh patients.
  • Perform blood glucose monitoring and monitor intravenous infusions and transfusions as directed by the RN.
  • Set up and discontinue telemetry monitoring as needed.
  • Collect specimens as directed and apply sterile dressings, remove sutures, staples, and/or drains.
  • Perform stomal irrigation and apply colostomy pouches, as well as oral and tracheostomy suctioning.
  • Administer tube feedings to patients and take emergency actions as required.
  • Assist with the admission, discharge, and transfer process of patients.
  • Transport patients to and from various treatment centers and assist in moving patients in and out of stretchers and wheelchairs.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the patient's room, including making beds and replacing soiled linen.
  • Restock rooms with supplies and equipment as directed.

Requirements

  • Six months of experience in a healthcare setting or completion of a health-related vocational education course.
  • Completion of the first semester of clinical education in an associate or bachelor's degree program from a health care discipline.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association upon hire.
  • Knowledge of basic nursing techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow written and oral instructions.
